Automation

Automations that still feel human

April 2, 2026 · 4 min read

Automation gets a bad reputation because most people automate the wrong layer. They automate the relationship instead of the logistics.

The logistics are safe to automate: delivering a resource, confirming a booking, sorting inquiries into the right bucket, following up when someone goes quiet. These are chores, and chores should never depend on a human remembering.

The relationship is not safe to automate. The first real reply, the objection, the moment someone shares something personal, all of that should be handled by a person, and it should read like a person wrote it.

The practical test I use: if a message would be embarrassing to receive twice, it should not be automated. If it would be equally useful the tenth time, automate it and move on.

The takeaway

Automate the delivery, never the conversation. The goal is speed without losing warmth.
